Tughluq dynasty ruled Delhi from 1320 AD till 1414 AD. Muhammad bin Tughluq is one of the most interesting and remarkable rulers of the Tughluq dynasty. He succeeded his father Ghiyas-ud-din Tughlaq. He was highly educated and was well versed in Arabic and Persian language. He was also an excellent commander which can be seen from his successful military campaign.
Muhammad Bin Tughluq’s coinage was one of the most complex and innovative systems of the whole Delhi series. He had issued various numbers of coins, in large quantities, with a greater number of mints. His coinage is divided into different classes.
1. Coins struck in the memory of his father.
2. Coins issued in his own name.
3. Coins with his own name struck both by normal and token issues.
4. Coins struck in the names of ‘Abbasid Caliphs’.
