Very rare and beautiful “Badr Shahi” gold tanka of Ghiyath al din Mahmud Shah.
Bengal Sultan, Ghiyath al-din Mahmud (AH 939-945, 1532-1538 AD), Gold Tanka, 10.73g, AH 933, Badr Shahi series, Khallada Allah Mulkahu wa Sultanhu legend, Badr Shahi legend in the centre and within the circle on both sides, (G&G B891). Extremely Fine, Extremely Rare. All the Badr Shahi coins are dated before Mahmud’s accession in AH 939. This would suggest that Mahmud was permitted to strike coins in his own name during the reign of his elder brother Nusrat Shah.
